What motor is in it?
Chevy - The prototype has a 350 ci
Dodge - 5.9 Turbo Cummins diesel
Generally it is anticipated that builders will use the engine from the donor vehicle
Can I fit another type of motor?
There is firewall clearance for a 454 ci, straight 6 or small diesel
What does the body assembly consist of?
A comprehensive list of the body assembly components is given on this web site
What's the price?
Prices vary depending on the items selected. See the pricing information for details
Do both rear axles drive?
No - the front tandem axle drives. The rear is a coaster.
Will it fit a different year model?
The Lil Kenny prototype was specifically developed using the 73 - 87 model Chevy and has mounting bolts which bolt straight onto that chassis. The Dodge fitting kit is designed to bolt directly onto a 94 - 03 Dodge Ram 2500. However, it may be possible to adapt it to later models, although this aspect has not been researched by Lil Big Rig, so no claims are made in this regard.
Will it fit a different make of donor vehicle?
See the answer above.
Are there any other body styles available?
Yes, see the Lil Pete page.
Can I fit a 5th wheel?
The prototype was built on a 1/2 ton C10 and Lil Big Rig does not recommend installing a 5th wheel on this size pickup for towing purposes, as the original manufacturer's capacity recommendations and limits still apply unless you upgrade the suspension. If you want to use this vehicle for towing purposes, choose a donor Chevy truck with the appropriate towing capacity for your application. A C20 of the same years works just fine too, and these have greater towing ability.
Should I use a tandem or single axle?
For general purposes, the tandem axle works well with the front tandem axle driving and the rear coasting - at it looks great.
How big of a trailer do I need if I decide to pick-up this body assembly from your factory?
A regular tandem trailer would be big enough.
What about shipping and crating?
Crating costs are $375 for domestic orders and $475 for international orders. Shipping costs are determined on each individual order.
What tools do I need to build a Lil Kenny? Are any special tools required?
A Lil Kenny project can be assembled using regular hand tools such as wrenches, sockets screwdrivers and Allen wrenches. As electric drill and 4 1/2 inch angle grinder with a cut off wheel area also required. No welding or fabrication is necessary to complete this project.
Do I need any special skills to build a Lil Kenny?
Lil Big Rig assumes that the purchaser has some mechanical knowledge and/or experience. This body assembly is not really for the beginner, but if you take the time to follow the instructions and have an experienced mechanic check out your progress, it is certainly possible for most people to build this vehicle. Those people with a reasonable amount of experience in auto mechanics, and a sense of purpose will be rewarded with a vehicle they can be proud of at the end of the project.
How long will it take to build?
The time required to build a Lil Big Rig truck will vary greatly based on individual ability, and also the refinement of the finished product.
Remember - you are building a real vehicle that you drive on a public road. Take the time to do it right. It'll pay off in the long run, both from a safety and satisfaction point of view.
What is the delivery time from the placement of an order for a body assembly?
This varies, but is typically 6 - 10 weeks. Call for delivery schedule.
Can I fit a bench seat in the sleeper?
The sleeper is an integral part of the cabin and is 32" x 70" x 42" high. The sleeper was not originally designed to be a passenger compartment. The front seats intrude into this area by about 6" when they are all the way back, so space is limited. However, seats from an extended cab or a king cab may fit.
Can I fit a diesel engine?
Yes. some diesels fit although special cooling systems may have to be fabricated for the radiator and inter-cooler (if turbocharged) as the grill on the Lil Kenny is on 27" wide.
Will it fit a dually?
Yes, the body mounts are in the same position on the frame as the 1/2 and 3/4 ton pickups. However, the dually rear wheels are wider than the front wheels and it would look different from a Big Rig. (The outside of the front and rear wheels on a big rig tractor are approximately in line. A narrowed rear end would make it look right.)
Do you make a day cab?
No. The Lil Kenny cab and sleeper is all molded as one. The sleeper has 2 functions - to make the truck look right and to provide enough room for the front seats to slide back for taller drivers.
Will it fit a 4 x 4?
Yes, the body mounts are in the same position on the 4 x 4 as the 2 x 4. However a lift kit may be required on some models.
Does the truck come in different colors?
No, the gel coat is black and has to be sanded and primed before the color and clear coat is applied.
How is the tag axle attached?
Trailing arms running back from the drive axle and 2 air shocks up to the frame over the rear tag axle. See photo gallery for picture.
Are turnkey units available?
Turnkey units are not available.
